Dressing to win is the key to your success.
I don’t know about you but I think society has definitely lost the art of dressing up. Gone are the days of frocking up with gloves and hats… perhaps for the races or a fancy dress party. I know we have moved on from the days of the Downton Abby era when they dressed in their finest for dinner every night (with the help of maids, I might add) But, even in the early 60’s June Cleaver from Leave it to Beaver would not have been caught dead doing the dishes without wearing her pearls.
There was a time when a woman really made an entrance! Remember? Skirts swished, heads turned and it wasn’t for a red carpet event, either. Anything goes it seems in the 21st century from wearing Ugg boots with summer dresses, pyjamas worn as day wear, shorts and thongs seem fine for any occasion.
Dressing up? A quaint and bygone custom. Have we become a nation of slobs?
Dressing to win is the key to your success and here’s why.
There is no such thing as a Neutral Image
We make snap judgments about people from the clothes they wear. On what basis? There is much more to our clothing choices than we might imagine. For many people, what they wear is merely a matter of habit, but when we dress in the morning it might pay us to be a little more careful in the choices we make. Doing something different with your clothes might be a way of changing the impression others have of you.
The People you Meet
The people you meet will automatically accept the role YOU have packaged yourself for! The first step in gaining a credible and professional image is realising that you can control the opinions of others especially concerning what they think you are capable of. Everyday dress and act in a way that gives others a great experience of you.
Dress to Impress
It’s not fake, vain, shallow or phony, you are not coning people, you are setting an emotional and physical climate for success. People will see your presentation long before they get to know the wonderful person you really are. Dressing well makes people stop and take notice, thus affording you the advantage of proving your worth.
Choose Wisely
It is important to choose our dress style carefully because people will make all sorts of assumptions and decisions about us without proper evidence. We are unlikely to know what these assessments are too, so it is quite possible that our clothes reveal more than we thought. What we wear speaks volumes in just a few seconds. Dressing to impress really is worthwhile and could even be the key to your success.
Lasting Impressions
Like they say in Hollywood you are as good as your last movie, the same so goes for in image management. Your last impression is just as important as your first impression. Last impressions do matter, so try your best to leave on a positive note making the opportunity of your time together worthwhile for both of you!
